Dollar Store Hacks

Decorating your home is a lot of fun but can be very expensive. Alot of the time even a simple vase can cost you more than you want to spend. Did you ever think to look at the Dollar Store for home decor items? Target is right next to the Dollar Store where I live and I often find myself forgetting about the Dollar Store most of the time. I love Target but I have found that I can make or even buy some of these “expensive things” i would normally buy at Target at the Dollar Store.

I have put together a few ideas for home decor as well as other organization hacks that can be found at the Dollar Store. Some of these things absolutely shocked me! Enjoy.

Chip & Dip Platter

This is the perfect serving platter for those who love entertaining. I have seen chip and dip platters before and they are usually around $20 or more. At the Dollar Store you can get a large glass serving bowl and glue in a margarita glass and you will have a great serving platter for $2.

DIY Industrial Baskets

Tutorial: Home Talk

The Dollar Store usually has an entire aisle dedicated for baskets and storage containers. Grab a few various sized baskets for $1 a piece and then spray paint them with a paint + primer galvanized color. Much cheaper than buying industrial baskets at the store.

Decorative Baskets

Tutorial: iHeart Organizing

Baskets have been popular for centuries. It seems like decorative baskets are the most expensive in places such as Pier 1 Imports and Target. This was a dollar store laundry basket wrapped in 2 shades of rope. A decorative but yet functional project!

DIY Picture Frame Lanterns

Tutorial: Gros Grain Fab

This absolutely blows my mind! This lantern is made up of picture frames hot glued together from the Dollar Store. Would make great centerpieces for weddings and even beautiful Mantle decor.

Candle Holders

Rubber Mat Decor

Tutorial: Salvagedior

This is a creative way to spice up any wall. Normally metal wall decor such as this cost anywhere from $20-$45. This is a Dollar Store rubber mat spray painted white and then distressed with sandpaper.

Trying to figure out where to store all of your spices can get frustrating and cluttered. At the Dollar Store you can get these narrow baskets and hot glue magnets onto the back of them. Stick them onto the side of your refrigerator, store your spices and enjoy the extra cupboard space!

Painted Vases

Vases can get expensive especially painted ones. These vases are from the Dollar Store and then painted on the inside with enamel paint and sealer.

Apothecary Jars

Tutorial: The Joy of Decorating

When I see jars like this my mind goes to a teachers desk. I think this would be an inexpensive but functional teacher gift. Hot glue glass jars with lids onto glass candle sticks. These jars would be great to store candy, erasers, paper clips, etc. $2 a piece.

Picture Frames

Spray paint a dollar store picture frame and candle stick and then hot glue together. Makes a standing picture display.

Car Trash Can

Car organization, clean car, car cleaning hacks, popular pin, easy cleaning tips, cleaning hacks,.

Putting a trash can in the car is genius. When my family and I go on trips, Every stop we make I am routinely clearing out all of the garbage. This is something you can just empty and be on your way. I love this idea.

Movie Snack Caddy

Awesome idea for a movie night with the kids. Found these at the dollar store to do this weekend with the kids and their cousins for movie night. Also found twister game!:

This is pretty self explanatory, but HOW CUTE IS THIS?! This is a fun little movie snack holder from the Dollar Store. Every Snack has a special place in the caddy. Super fun idea for the kids and family movie nights.

Galvanized Cupcake Stand

Made out of stove burner covers from the dollar store... would be great cupcake stand! by nanette

Another “BLOWN AWAY” idea is this cupcake stand. To make it you get stove top burners and wooden tops. You glue them together every other one and then spray paint with a galvanized spray paint.

DIY Hot Pad

Tutorial: Time 2 Save Workshops

This is an inexpensive project and a great decorative/functional item to have in the house. Setting a hot coffee pot or dish on it instead of an old ugly hot pad.

Welcome Board

DIY Welcome Board in Wedding. Buy a tray from the dollar store and some chalkboard to glue to the tray , tie a ribbon on top. This will be a wonderful wedding decor to welcome your guests with calligraphy in gold ink pens for a welcome message.

Tutorial: So El Boutique

This is called a welcome board. I like to have these in the Kitchen to display the menu of the nights meal. I cannot tell you how many times a day I get asked “What’s for Dinner?” so having it displayed right there in the kitchen is really useful! This is a dollar store platter painted with chalk paint and a bow hot glued to the top of the platter. All you need now is some chalk and your ready to display.

Succulent Display

Dollar Store Succulent Planter. Glued clear glasses in between dollar store ceramic bowls in different sizes. Be sure to leave an opening wide enough to insert plants. It doesn't need to spray paint the glasses because they would not be visible once the plants were in.

Tutorial: Craft Berry Bush

Succulents are getting more and more popular. You can find them just about anywhere but you can also find them along with other silk flowers and plants at the Dollar Store. This display takes 3 salsa dishes filled with pebbled rocks and then topped with arranged succulents at the top. You can stack them how you want, or hot glue them in place.
